Palácio do Correio-Mor

Palácio do Correio-Mor is an 18th-century Baroque palace in Loures, Portugal, around 15 minutes from Lisbon. A Property of Public Interest designed by Italian architect António Canevari, it is associated with Luís Gomes de Elvas Coronel, who became Correio-Mor under King Philip II. The pink façade has two high carriage arches, a horse drinking trough and an image of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira.

Rooms on the noble floor contain monochromatic and polychromatic azulejos from Bartolomeu Antunes' workshop, showing scenes from the owner's life and pre-1755 Lisbon. Stucco ceilings by Giovanni Grossi, paintings by José da Costa Negreiros and the Sala da Caça, with panels illustrating Ovid's Metamorphoses, provide further interior detail. Outside, the grounds include a protected Mediterranean forest, French-style boxwood gardens, cascades and a large azulejo-lined tank. Indoor and outdoor spaces, gardens, park areas and views provide settings for weddings, private parties, receptions, corporate events and other occasions.
