Overview

Newtown Castle is a 16th-century fortified tower house in the Burren, Co. Clare, Ireland. Built for a branch of the O'Brien family and later owned by the O'Loghlens, it now stands at the centre of the Burren College of Art. Its rocket-shaped form is entered by a narrow spiral staircase, with floors containing original domed wattle ceilings and defensive features.

The Minstrels Gallery provides a setting for wedding ceremonies, while the main hall has panoramic views. The grounds include a green avenue and outlooks towards the Burren, Connemara, the Atlantic and Galway Bay. Newtown Castle hosts weddings, corporate events, private parties, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, workshops, receptions and retreats. It is a national heritage site and is open to the public on weekdays free of charge.
