Overview

Hertford Castle is a Grade I listed castle in Hertford, Hertfordshire, beside the River Lea. Dating from the 15th century and with Norman origins, it served as a royal palace for over 300 years and was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I. Its setting includes gardens, a park and outdoor space, while the castle provides indoor event areas and parking. The Downshire Suite accommodates up to 60 guests for a seated reception, or up to 100 for a more informal gathering.

The venue hosts weddings, private parties, corporate events, conferences and receptions. It can also accommodate civil ceremonies, partnership celebrations, vow renewals, meetings, seminars and training events. Private functions may include birthdays, anniversaries, christenings and memorials. Event organisers can appoint their own caterers and suppliers, while exclusive hire includes use of the castle grounds for photographs. Public access is limited to booked events and open days.
